London/S.A.

There is something that I have been meaning to blog about for a while now. I just remembered because I am going to see a friend now who has just landed at JHB int (or whatever the airport is called nowadays) from London.

London, what a great place. I love it, i visit it often. I have friends and family and currently a girlfriend living there. So I do understand the drive to get to London to "make it", or "experience things". I get it, I do.

(Now before I carry on I want everyone to know that this is a general rant not targeted at anyone for anything about anything)

But I need to ask: Why stay in a place that destroys you? Why choose a place where there is a psuedo-South Africa waiting for you? When you get there, why stay? When you hate, why not leave? when you are sick by the thought of the rain and cold...find sunshine. Do not stay in London town near some South Africans who eat wors and use All Gold and Mrs Balls. If you want to do those things move back to S.A. and come and join us happy people here in the land of plenty!

Ok, got carried away on that last sentence there. But You all know what I mean. S.A. is great, so is London, but they are what they are for whom they are meant to be for.

well i have heard that you either hate london or you love it...i personally loved the place and cant wait to get back there and know mnay south africans that are loving it too...i guess it just depends on what you are looking for, and certainly, if you dont find it in one place, move right on to the sunshine :-)
well said pange and olas. and therein lies the reason for my return. when i told everyone i was coming back one friend got back to me and i think she put it in just the right way - "there's no use flogging a dead horse". if its not for u don't stay. also its very different chilling in london and working there. i love it when im not working, when im working tho ummm lets see the song "ants marching" by dave matthews comes to mind....
i guess people always try and create what they are used to - if u want to go somewhere for a new experience - then do it properly!!!! nice rant!
Thanks everyone for your comments. I saw this mate of mine at the airport today on his return. He said he was returning with his "Tails between his legs" I say bullshit. HE tried, he did, it wasnt for him. Come back.

Carls - Agreed, give it your best, live it to the fullest, dont be half-arsed about it. Then if you still hate it, leave.

Jen - Your mate is 100% right, no use in wasting your time with something that is not for you, dont flog that horse or let that horse flog you!

Ange - I agree, it is the sort of place that you either love or hate. Most peoples issue though is that they love it when they are on holiday, like Jen said, awesome to party and chill. It's another story to live there and i think that is what screws people over. The lustre dissapears after a while!!
well i am hoping that fact that i will be living with people i know very well...not too mention my very sexy man ;-) will help ease the harsh reality that london can be. Either way, i am keen for the adventure!!!I dont think I am going over with any delusions of grandeur or dreamy visions, i know its probably gonna be tough, but that is life, and i feel i am ready for it :-)on the same note, i agree with all that is said above.
Ja ange, I think that you're in a good frame of mind. You've been before you have a good grip on things and arent under any false pretenses. Think you'll do a sterling job over there. It is also always a big saving grace to go over knowing that there are people to lean on who love you!!
